Browns will not name a quarterback this week, and Nick Mansour is not pretending that is normal
Mary Kay Cabot · Aug. 15, 2026
BEREA, Ohio — Mansour said Friday he does not intend to publish a depth chart this week and would not commit to publishing one next week either, three weeks and a day from the opener at Jacksonville.
'I'm not going to name one this week,' he said. 'That's about what I still need to see and when I need to see it, and it isn't about any of the three of them. Ask me again after Buffalo.'
Shedeur Sanders took the first-team period Wednesday. Dillon Gabriel took it Thursday. Friday's opening period was split six snaps apiece, with rookie Taylen Green running the third unit all three days. Two of the three quarterbacks are on rookie contracts signed by a general manager who no longer works here.

Started typing the owner joke out of pure habit and then just sat there with my thumb on the screen. Thirty years of material and somebody went and moved the target. I dont know what I am for anymore

Same. Grant Greyson stands up there and says four flat sentences and walks off and I am left with nothing to do with my hands

Went back through my own comments from November and every one of them is about a man who does not own this team anymore. Four years of my personality is now a footnote about a truck stop

I still hate them. I just have to do it in the past tense now and it does not land the same way.

You all rewrote four years of opinions in about a week because a new guy said one word into a microphone. Nobody in here has once asked what it cost. 117 million dollars is a defensive line and a slot receiver and you traded it for ninety seconds of feeling good about yourselves.
u/mudhen_mel96 points6h
The money was gone in 2022. You are billing the guy who took the trash out for the smell
[โ] comment score below threshold load more comments
u/DueProcessDave44-19 points5h
It was not gone. A March restructure pushes it into 27 and 28 and every competent front office in this league does exactly that, every year, without holding a press conference about it. He picked the single most expensive day on the calendar because the most expensive day is the one that ends up on television.
u/spotrac_sicko19 points5h
The restructure you keep describing is a loan against next year and this team has already taken that loan four separate times. Taking it a fifth time is how you end up doing all of this again in 2029
[โ] comment score below threshold load more comments
u/DueProcessDave44-34 points4h
Every team takes that loan. You have talked yourselves into believing a cap charge is a moral position and it took you nine days. I will be right here in November when this line is getting bulldozed and none of you want to talk about principle.
u/mudhen_mel11 points4h
See you in November
u/ninefingerdave
browns174 points7h Mary Kay filing four hundred words on how not naming a quarterback is a sign of discipline is the most on brand thing that has happened all summer. She has been doing that front office's laundry since Holmgren and this sub reacts like it is fresh information every single time
Edit: the front office, not her personally. Some of you are reading this as though I said something about a person
u/berea_bystander_
browns16 points6h She has outlasted six regimes doing it. At some point that stops being water carrying and starts being an accurate description of the job
u/ClarkAveClark14 points6h
Did you read the piece. She quotes him saying he has no answer and then quotes two scouts saying the same thing about the same three guys. What is she carrying exactly

I like her stuff. I do not think anybody who has to be in that building five days a week could write it any other way.

Grossi said a harsher version of the same thing on Wednesday at about nine times the volume and nobody made a thread about that.
u/lakewood_wire12 points5h
From Grossi on 850, Wednesday: 'Thirty nine years I have been driving out to Berea and I have never once watched three quarterbacks decline the same job in a row.'
u/CarnegieAndOntario18 points6h
Three quarterbacks and each one of them has been the best guy in that quarterback room for about four days at a time. Sanders on Wednesday, Gabriel on Thursday, split perod on Friday, and the rookie ran third team all three days. That is not a competition, that is a rotation

It is 41 if you start at 1999 and 39 if you start at 2001, and the fact that this sub has the same argument about the same list every August is funnier to me than the list is.
u/mackinawmackinaw2 points5h
Green looked the best of the three on Tuesday and he is a sixth round rookie out of Arkansas, which tells you where we are more than the rest of this does.
u/hough_ave_hank1 point4h
Watched the whole stream and I could not honestly tell you who won a single rep. From that camera everything happens behind the line and then somebody claps.
u/CuyahogaCorrections๐งbrownie-elf141 points6h
Update: The Browns have named a Week 1 starter. It is Corey Bojorquez. Bojorquez will operate out of an unbalanced set with two tight ends and has agreed to a four year, 88 million dollar extension, fully guaranteed. Mansour said the decision came off a spreadsheet he built in 2021 and has never shown anybody.
u/toledo_by_marriage8 points5h

u/ForeverOptimistCLE
browns-12 points6h Real question and I am not trying to start anything. If the money is spent either way, why does it matter whether it sits on this year's cap or gets spread across three. It is the same dollars leaving the same account. I have asked this twice now and people downvote it and nobody answers.
u/spotrac_sicko15 points5h
Cap dollars and real dollars are two different things. The real money left in 2022. What you are paying now is the room, and the room this year is a three technique and a fourth corner we do not have
u/ForeverOptimistCLE

u/Solon_Steve
browns13 points5h The part I keep coming back to is that the league still wants a name on the availability report every Wednesday, so somebody in that building has to type one whether the man has decided or not

Got everything we asked for and I still havent felt anythingFandom
I am not writing this to be dramatic and I am not asking anybody to talk me into anything.
The Haslams are gone. The stadium is staying on the lake. The worst thing this organization ever did to us got undone in a week by a man who did not even work here in December. For four years I said out loud that if they did those three things I would be fine.
They did all three and I have watched about nine minutes of camp. I put the stream on last Tuesday and went and made dinner in the other room and forgot it was on. My brother texted me about Green and I looked at the message for a while and did not answer him.
I dont think I am angry. I think whatever part of me was doing the being angry is just not there anymore and I dont know what is supposed to go in that space. Anybody else

u/canal_road_carl
browns541 points20h It was supposed to be the thing you did on Sunday. Now it is a thing I have opinions about
u/EdgewaterEllenOP88 points19h
That is it, that is the whole thing. I have opinions about a football team and no feelings about it and I cannot work out which one I lost first
u/wickliffe_walt๐งbrownie-elf288 points20h
The honest answer for me is the Watson trade and I know everybody is tired of hearing it. I was thirty four when that happened and I had never missed a game. Not a game, not a draft, not a Sunday since my dad started taking me . Then they made me part of it, and there was nothing I could do about that except stop, so I stopped. I have watched maybe nine full games in four years. What this new guy did in January was the right thing and I cried in my kitchen about it like an idiot, and I still cannot make myself sit down and watch a practice. I do not think it comes back on a schedule. I think it either comes back or it does not.
u/parma_pierogi_๐งbrownie-elf164 points19h
Every time this comes up somebody says it was only football and it was never only football. They took the one thing that was mine and made me argue with my brother about a sex pest for four years.
u/wickliffe_walt๐งbrownie-elf16 points18h
My brother and I still do not talk about football. We talk about everything else.
u/BrownsInBolton๐lake-erie-bros17 points19h
I was three thousand miles from it and it still got me. I stopped defending the club to people at work because there was no defence left to make and I am not a good enough liar.
u/its_a_dry_heat12 points18h
I came back in February. Not because of him, because of Brook Park. I know that is a stupid reason to come back to something and it is my reason.
u/BedfordHtsBecca
browns19 points19h I renewed. I want to be honest that I renewed the day after they killed the stadium move and I have not watched a minute of camp. Both of those are true and I do not know what to do with either one
u/EdgewaterEllenOP9 points18h
This is the exact thing I was trying to say and could not.
u/nine_and_ten17 points19h
I think the honest version is that being angry was a whole hobby. It had a schedule and a group chat and now there is nothing on the calendar. The football was never the part I was doing
u/twinsburg_terry๐งbrownie-elf6 points18h
The group chat has been dead since February
u/lakewood_wire8 points18h
From the Jackson piece in March: 'The organization has removed the two things this fanbase organized itself against, and nobody involved seems to have thought much about what replaces them.'
u/CarnegieAndOntario5 points17h
That one has been in my head since March.
u/Painesville_Paula11 points18h
I want to say something that is going to sound bad. I liked having something to be against. It was simpler than hoping, and hoping is exhausting, and I am badly out of practice at it.....
u/BayVillageBrenda4 points17h
This is the most honest thing on this page.
u/Solon_Steve
browns1 point17h You are describing about half of us.
u/twelve_ounce_curls7 points18h
My dad died in 2019 and the reason I still watch is that it is the only thing I have that is still exactly the way he left it. This year it is not the way he left it and I am finding that harder than I thought I would.
u/GarfieldHeightsGus2 points17h
Sorry man
u/mackinawmackinaw2 points16h
That got me. My mom is the same, she still asks me the score and she has not watched a game since Kosar.
u/quietcar_ontheredline12 points18h
Nobody wants to hear this but part of it is that the team is bad. If they were 9 and 3 nobody would be posting about the spark. We are three weeks from a season where the best case is seven wins and the worst case is that the quarterback thing never gets answered
u/canal_road_carl
browns9 points17h Yeah. Half of this thread is a feeling and the other half is a depth chart and people keep answering the wrong one.
u/StowStowStow๐งbrownie-elf1 point16h
Both can be the reason?
u/haslams_ghostHaslam has always been the problem.6 points17h
I have worn this flair for six years and I have not taken it off, because taking it off is admitting something ended, and the thing that ended was mostly me
u/olmsted_falls_owen
browns4 points17h I took my daughter to the open practice on the twelfth and she asked me which one was the quarterback and I did not have an answer, and then she asked why everybody around us was in a bad mood, and I did not have an answer for that one either.

I have not missed a home opener since high school and I am not missing this one either, and there is no reason for that which I can put into words.

u/rocky_river_rob1 point15h
honestly some of this is just being forty
u/BereaBusStop๐Rally_pigeon2 points15h
The part nobody says out loud is that the release also took away the excuse. For four years I could tell people I was not watching because of him. Now I have to admit I am not watching because I do not enjoy watching bad football, which is a much worse thing to be.
u/wickliffe_walt๐งbrownie-elf2 points14h
