Cleveland retains a portion of Ward's 2026 salary. Ward, 29, was the fourth overall pick in the 2018 draft and signed a five-year extension in 2022 that remains the largest contract given to a defensive back.
Second wire post has the salary retention if anyone is looking for it. It is about nine million.

Mansour said the decision was not close and declined to say when he made it. Dillon Gabriel will back up. Taylen Green will be the emergency third.

2. Gabriel is a fine backup and a poor bridge
3. We hold three firsts in 2027 and the only way to spend one on a quarterback is to prove we need one
