101 is not a temperature that should be attached to a football game
u/Duval_Since_95Jaguars10 points22h
It is 101 in the parking lot and about 118 on the field and we have done this every september of my life
u/Ok_Marionette_5512Chargers80 points22h
How do you people live
u/Reasonable_Yam_2210Cardinals2 points22h
Who has this. Is this on 706
u/Necessary_Ostrich_44Bears17 points22h
I am here purely because I want to see what a Browns sideline looks like now
u/clemencypleaseCommanders6 points22h
Same. No interest in either team. Total tourist
u/AdSubstantial_1188Jets5 points22h
Nix or Sanders, which quarterback line do you take today
u/Practical_Deer_9Titans3 points21h
Jacksonville going three and out on the opener is a bold way to sell the nine and a half
u/th_ornton10 points21h
Every Sanders throw so far has gone to the flat or a hitch and every one of them has been caught. This is the plan and it is working, which is annoying
u/Tough_Woodpecker_71Seahawks20 points21h
The plan is called offense
u/Frosty_Almond_88Colts15 points21h
BROWNS TIGHT END
u/Frosty_Almond_88Colts8 points21h
7-0 cleveland. Did not have that
u/garfield_gregBrowns3 points21h
Fannin. He is going to be a problem for people this year and I have said that in five threads
u/Old_Tumbleweed_400Raiders5 points21h
Jaguars look like a team that read their own preseason coverage
u/JaxCityCoreyJaguars2 points21h
We won thirteen games
u/brandon_ostergaardVikings2 points21h
How is Cleveland's line holding up, that was the whole question in august
u/Substantial_Pear_19Packers23 points20h
14-0 and Cleveland has not punted
u/Ordinary_Salad_808Giants30 points20h
The Browns have not punted is a sentence with a very short shelf life, enjoy it
u/lakewood_lindseyBrowns6 points20h
we know
u/DuvalMorningsJaguars3 points20h
This is embarassing and it is 101 degrees on the field and I am watching my team jog
u/ShieldAndScrollNFL12 points20h
Bo Nix has already thrown one to the wrong team and it is not two o'clock
u/Vast_Peanut_1990Chiefs26 points20h
He is going to throw for five hundred yards and lose and it will be the funniest box score of the week
u/MileHighMechanic_Broncos5 points20h
please stop
u/BoldCityBrandonJaguars6 points20h
THERE we go
u/Suitable_Falcon_212Ravens10 points20h
14-7 with a minute left in the half and Cleveland gets the ball back. Do not celebrate yet
u/BoldCityBrandonJaguars86 points20h
I am celebrating, we are down seven with a minute left and I am taking what I can get
u/eight_o_clock_rule2 points20h
Trevor Lawrence has had five clean pockets and thrown five completions and none of them have been past the sticks. Cleveland is not rushing four and getting home, they are just not letting anybody behind them
u/Anxious_Kettle_909RavensRavens1 point20h
Somebody explain the Cleveland front to me because they have one sack all afternoon and Lawrence looks like he has been running for his life
u/parma_pete_Browns2 points20h
Verse is winning every rep and finishing none of them. It looks better on television than it does in a box score and it will look worse in a box score all season
u/kohler_r30 points19h
Fannin again. 21-7. Cleveland has scored on every possession they have had that was not a kneel
u/Fine_Bench_4407Dolphins37 points19h
I opened this thread for the Jaguars and I am now watching a Browns game on purpose
u/Fair_Blueberry_31Falcons6 points19h
The tight end has two touchdowns and four catches. That is a strange stat line for a half
u/Fair_Blueberry_31Falcons2 points19h
He handed the ball to the ref both times, no celebration at all
u/Blunt_Force_412Steelers6 points19h
30-3 in our building and I have chosen to be in this thread instead
u/Fair_Blueberry_31Falcons69 points19h
Welcome, it is nicer over here
u/Wide_Tomato_2000Bengals2 points19h
Halftime, 21-7, and I have not seen Cleveland face a third and long yet
u/quiet_lurker_19902 points19h
That cannot be right
u/Careful_Sandwich_5Commanders12 points19h
Serious question is anybody in Jacksonville actually good or did they win thirteen games on a schedule
u/Ordinary_Salad_808Giants8 points19h
Third and one on the far hash and Cleveland is in an empty set. What
u/Ordinary_Salad_808Giants54 points19h
FIFTY FIVE YARDS
u/Purple_Hydrant_3Patriots50 points19h
The rookie ran past a corner in press like the corner was a cone at a camp
u/JaxCityCoreyJaguars15 points19h
That is our best corner
u/Wide_Tomato_2000Bengals64 points19h
THE COACH JUST RIPPED HIS OWN HEADSET OFF HIS HEAD
u/Wide_Tomato_2000Bengals45 points19h
The cord took it clean off his head and he kept running up the sideline without it
u/quiet_lurker_19903 points19h
What happened I looked down at my phone
u/Practical_Deer_9Titans59 points19h
JUDKINS 30. 28-7. AND THE COACH HAS HIS HEADSET ON BACKWARDS
u/Old_Tumbleweed_400Raiders92 points19h
Nobody told him
u/Careful_Sandwich_5Commanders41 points19h
Somebody from equipment ran it over to him and he got it on facing the wrong way and called a touchdown with it
u/Silver_Cabinet_77Lions3 points19h
Somebody clip this before the league takes it down
u/kohler_r12 points19h
Four people already have
u/DuvalMorningsJaguars6 points19h
We are getting beaten 28-7 by a man who does not know what direction his headset is facing
u/lakewood_lindseyBrowns26 points19h
yes
u/Tough_Woodpecker_71Seahawks10 points19h
Hunter got 66 on the boundary corner and it did not matter at all. That is the strangest part of this
u/BoldCityBrandonJaguars6 points19h
He is the only reason to keep it on
u/brandon_ostergaardVikings3 points19h
The Cleveland right guard is having a rough afternoon and nobody is going to notice because of the score
u/orange_sofa_1 point19h
The Cleveland quarterback has been on the ground four times and got up slowly from one of them and nobody in this thread has said anything about it
u/Zealous_Marmot_88Eagles1 point19h
Jacksonville has run the ball eleven times for almost nothing and they keep going back to it like the next one is going to be different
u/north_royalton_nBrowns1 point19h
Watching this with my mother who has not sat through a full quarter since 2020 and she has not moved
u/Duval_Since_95Jaguars5 points18h
The upper deck we still have is emptying and there was not much of it
u/Fluffy_Ravioli_2Eagles12 points18h
42,507 and half of them have gone to their cars. Brutal
u/Wandering_Bison_60Rams17 points18h
Verse has been talking at the Jacksonville bench for six straight minutes and the game ended twenty minutes ago
u/Wandering_Bison_60Rams33 points18h
We traded that. Hey. We traded that man
u/garfield_gregBrowns6 points18h
He has three for loss and no sacks and he has been the best player on the field
u/th_ornton23 points18h
Cleveland punted once. One time. 37 yards
u/Wonderful_Pilot_31Panthers8 points18h
The punter is going to get a game ball for effort
u/Icy_Cantaloupe_66Buccaneers6 points18h
That spot on fourth down was bad and CBS spent ninety seconds on it in a 28 point game
u/ShieldAndScrollNFL3 points18h
It was bad and it did not matter and they still had to argue about it, which is the job
u/Fair_Blueberry_31Falcons12 points18h
30-3 for us and 35-7 for Cleveland and I have no idea what to do with either of those numbers
u/Blunt_Force_412Steelers75 points18h
Do not put us in a sentence with the Jaguars
u/clemencypleaseCommanders2 points18h
Saints 42 Lions 36 in the other window and nobody is talking about it because of this
u/Ok_Radish_1919Saints5 points18h
We are talking about it
u/cormac_delaneyPackers1 point18h
Does anybody know why they kept throwing it up 28. genuine question, not a complaint
u/pfeiffer_j12 points18h
They were running it, the runs kept getting stuffed and then they were on second and long. Throwing there is not really keeping it up
u/strongsville_seanBrowns1 point18h
I am going to go outside and sit in my car for a while and then come back in and watch it again
u/Sudden_Marigold_31Titans1 point18h
The Cleveland safety who moved to corner has been in the frame on about four of the completions and I do not think that is an accident
u/eight_o_clock_rule2 points18h
Savage. It is a conversion from safety and it has been a split afternoon, two very good plays on the ball and one where he got stacked and lost sixty six yards of grass
u/tenth_man_out1 point18h
Cleveland has not attempted a field goal all afternoon and their kicker has five extra points, which is a very strange way to score 35
u/parma_pete_Browns2 points18h
Four red zone touchdowns on six trips and the two that failed were the fourth downs. That is the whole scoring summary

THEY WERE NINE AND A HALF POINT FAVORITES
u/Adept_Pelican_711Jets315 points18h
And the total was 40.5. One of these teams did that by itself
u/Ok_Marionette_5512Chargers56 points17h
The over hit in the third quarter and one team had all of it
u/Adept_Pelican_711Jets13 points17h
The cleanest way anybody has said that

We were favored by nine and a half and I am going to think about that all week

Cleveland went 8 for 11 on third down in Jacksonville in september. I do not know what to do with that
u/ShieldAndScrollNFL7 points17h
Nothing. You do nothing with it. It is week one
u/garfield_gregBrowns6 points17h
Our punter has a beard and a personality and he is going to be furious about the workload
u/coverage_notes_418 points17h
Third down is the whole game and it is not a mystery. Cleveland went 8 of 11 and most of those were third and five or shorter, because they ran on first down and the runs got four and five yards a pop. Jacksonville's front is built to win on obvious passing downs and Cleveland spent the afternoon refusing to give them one.
The 55 yarder on third and one is the only snap all day where Cleveland went at them on their own terms, and it worked because the coverage was sitting on a run look. None of that is a projection. It is a description of one afternoon in which one team made the other play the down it is worst at.
u/Purple_Hydrant_3Patriots11 points17h
This is the only comment in here I have learned anything from and it is going to finish two hundred and eleventh
u/coverage_notes_7 points17h
That is fine, I write these for about nine people

$117.6M in dead money and a 1-0 record. Put that on a shirt and I will buy it
u/Duval_Since_95Jaguars74 points17h
The dead money did not play today and it still had a better afternoon than our secondary
u/medina_sound_guyBrowns44 points17h
We cheered that trade in 2022. All of us. I had the jersey ordered before the paperwork went in
u/Suitable_Falcon_212Ravens240 points17h

u/Old_Tumbleweed_400Raiders15 points17h
Every fanbase in this thread would have taken him if he had played well and about four of us will admit it
u/Old_Refrigerator_12Vikings147 points18h
My wings were still frozen in the middle when Fannin scored the second one and I ate them anyway
u/Silent_Gasket_44Raiders61 points17h
How long did you give them
u/Old_Refrigerator_12Vikings27 points17h
The bag said 22 to 26 and I gave them nine because I was watching a game I did not care about
u/Silent_Gasket_44Raiders14 points17h
You have to give them the 22
u/Careful_Sandwich_5Commanders18 points17h
You can put foil in an air fryer, people keep saying you cannot and they are wrong
u/Necessary_Ostrich_44Bears12 points17h
You can put foil in an air fryer if you weigh it down with the food. That is the whole rule and nobody reads it

Hey Jacksonville. It gets much worse and then it stays there. You are going to be fine
u/JaxCityCoreyJaguars190 points17h
This is not comforting
u/Bright_Meridian_7Seahawks69 points17h
Somebody in the week one preview thread nine days ago
they will not score twenty in a game before november and I will be here in november
u/Bright_Meridian_7Seahawks16 points17h
He is not here in september
u/pfeiffer_j8 points17h
He is, he is in this thread three comments down arguing about the spot
u/strongsville_seanBrowns8 points17h
Every august somebody says a version of that about us and every august they are right, so I am not going to be smug about one sunday
u/Dry_Lantern_2210Colts51 points17h
Shedeur Sanders went 20 of 24
u/Dry_Lantern_2210Colts13 points17h
Two touchdowns, no picks, 275
u/Dry_Lantern_2210Colts9 points16h
He took four sacks and at least three of those are his and I am saying that before anybody else does
u/Silver_Cabinet_77Lions6 points16h
You are having a full conversation
u/willoughby_wes_Browns46 points16h
Nobody in this city trusts a single minute of this and we are all going to be at the bar again next sunday anyway
u/Substantial_Pear_19Packers31 points16h
Scouts get promoted into general manager chairs constantly and nobody blinks. Nobody promotes a scout into a head coaching job, because it is a separate profession with separate skills, and one sunday in Jacksonville does not merge the two. He can be very good at one of those jobs and drowning in the other one and today tells you almost nothing about which.
u/Wandering_Bison_60Rams11 points16h
The tell will be a game he is losing. today he never had to make a decision under any pressure at all
u/Substantial_Pear_19Packers5 points16h
Correct, and the two fourth downs were the closest thing and he went 0 for 2
u/first_football_yearCommanders10 points16h
I started watching this year because my daughter's boyfriend is a Browns fan. Can somebody tell me what a big slot corner is? The announcers said it about the Cleveland safety maybe six times and I nodded along like a liar.
u/coverage_notes_17 points16h
It is a corner who lines up over the inside receiver instead of out by the sideline, and teams put bigger players there when that inside man is a tight end. Delpit is a safety by trade, which is why it works for him. Nothing about it is complicated, they just say it fast on television
u/first_football_yearCommanders7 points16h
Thank you, that is very clear. He had a good day then?
u/coverage_notes_12 points16h
Best day anybody on that defense had.
[deleted]8 points16h
[deleted]
u/Silver_Cabinet_77Lions12 points16h
He deleted it but the point about the guard was right
u/quiet_lurker_19903 points16h
What did it say
u/Ashtabula_AndyBrownsLions6 points17h
I have two teams and they both play in the AFC North and the NFC North and today only one of them embarrassed me
u/Marcus_VandenbergBroncosSaints5 points17h
Watched all four windows today and this is the one I am going to remember, which is not what I planned for my sunday
u/Halsted_GroveLionsLions5 points17h
Cleveland ran it 28 times for 173 yards after finishing 27th in rushing last year, which is a rebuilt offensive line doing exactly the thing it was rebuilt for
u/Meaningful_Anchor_7Colts5 points17h
Jacksonville had ten first downs at home in a season opener. I have been trying to think of a way to say that whcih makes it sound better and there is not one
u/scoreboard_operator4 points17h
Cleveland scored on six of their possessions and punted on one and turned it over on downs twice. That is the entire afternoon in one sentence and it is a stupid sentence
u/Trail_Mix_221049ers4 points17h
Twenty two first downs on the road in week one for a team that could not run the ball at all last year. The line rebuild is the story and nobody is going to write about the line rebuild
u/Lively_Compass_44Giants4 points17h
I do not follow either of these teams and I have now read four hundred comments about a headset. This website is a disease and I am not seeking treatment
u/Sturdy_Pumpkin_105Cardinals3 points17h
I keep seeing people say the Jaguars quit and I would like to point out that they were down 21 at halftime in 101 degree heat in a stadium that is two thirds open air scaffolding
u/Long_Winded_LarryPanthers3 points17h
I cannot get over zero turnovers and two penalties. Five rookies playing and they were the tidier team by a distance, on the road, in the heat
u/Fitzgerald_MossPatriotsPatriots3 points17h
Cleveland has three first round picks next april and just went into Jacksonville and won by 28, and I would like everybody here to consider how funny that becomes in march if it keeps up
u/tenth_man_out3 points16h
Genuine question for anybody who watched all of it, did Jacksonville have a plan for the tight end at all or did they just decide to live with it
u/eight_o_clock_rule4 points16h
They lived with it. He caught four balls and three of them were inside the fifteen and they were in zone every time
u/olmsted_falls_okBrowns3 points17h
We have been the joke for so long that a good sunday feels like a setup, and I say that as somebody who was very happy for three hours
u/Wonderful_Pilot_31Panthers2 points16h
Zero turnovers and two penalties on the road in week one, for a team with five rookies playing
u/Cool_Registry_88Titans2 points16h
Oluokun had eleven tackles and a sack and I do not think he had a bad game at all, he was just out there a very long time
u/Sleepy_Cardigan_19Buccaneers2 points17h
We play them next week and I have watched this game twice already and I could not tell you one useful thing about it
u/strongsville_seanBrowns4 points17h
Nobody does. That is week one
u/Adam_PrewittRaiders2 points16h
I would like to know what happens to this team the first time somebody punches them in the mouth
u/Rachel_OstrowskiSaints2 points16h
Chris Olave had 186 yards and two touchdowns today and he is the fourth most discussed player of the afternoon on this website
u/Ordinary_Bagel_7Titans2 points16h
Somebody will tell me this is unfair but Jacksonville looked like a team that spent the offseason being told it was good
u/ohio_city_owenBrowns2 points17h
We won by 28 in Jacksonville and my father rang me to ask what the catch was, and I could not find him one
u/north_royalton_nBrowns2 points16h
We could go 4-13 from here and today still happened, and I am not letting anybody take today off me
u/Old_Refrigerator_12Vikings1 point16h
The CBS crew was Nantz and Romo which tells you the network knew something
u/Kevin_WhelanBills2 points16h
It was not, it was the number two crew, the number one had the late window
u/Adept_Pelican_711Jets1 point16h
Hopkins had two catches for 32 and nobody in four thousand comments has mentioned him once, which is going to be a theme all season
u/lakewood_lindseyBrowns2 points16h
He is going to have eight next week and everybody will say it was always the plan
u/gregmurtaugh1 point16h
Does anybody know if the fourth down spot was reviewable or was it a judgement call
u/Wide_Awake_KevinEagles1 point16h
I am going to be honest I put this on to fold laundry
u/Fine_Bench_4407Dolphins3 points16h
How much laundry did you fold
u/brooklyn_hts_bBrowns1 point16h
Szmyt was five for five on extra points and did not attempt a field goal, which is the strangest way I have ever seen this team score 35

My dad coached small college ball for twenty six years, drove a bus to away games, and never got a phone call from anybody. There are men in this league right now who have spent thirty years in position rooms waiting for a coordinator job that is never going to open. I understand that the score is funny to all of you. It is not funny to them and it should not be funny to you either.
u/Old_Tumbleweed_400Raiders72 points17h
Brother it is 35-7

u/Nathan_ReidelBears-27 points17h
That is exactly my point and you have missed it on purpose. The score being lopsided is what makes it worse. It tells every one of those men that the twenty six years were decorative.
u/Fluffy_Ravioli_2Eagles28 points17h
Nobody thinks that. We think a football game was funny

You will think it is funny until it happens in an industry you work in.

u/nine_route_2 points15h
The play itself was a smash concept with the outside receiver clearing and the rookie running a straight go behind it out of a reduced split, and it worked because Jacksonville had a run fit call on. Nobody is going to talk about that for a single second

u/ShieldAndScrollNFL2 points15h
They are on a belt pack on the coach, so the cord runs from his hip to his ear and it is short on purpose

One week of statistics is the greatest thing this league has ever produced and I never want it to end

20 of 24 against a defense that quit is a real afternoon and it is also 24 attempts. Ten interceptions in seven starts last year and an 18.9 QBR, fifth worst in 696 qualifying seasons, is a sentence I did not make up. One game where nobody made him hold the ball does not change it
u/garfield_gregBrowns105 points5h
He was made to hold it four times and got sacked four times and at least three of those were on him. Nobody in Cleveland is pretending otherwise
u/Necessary_Ostrich_44Bears47 points5h
That is the most reasonable reply I have gotten in two years of typing about this player
u/Blue_Ledger_7Texans75 points5h
The average depth of target on that was about five yards and the two shots he took were both schemed wide open. That is a good day and it is also a small ask
u/Ordinary_Salad_808Giants30 points5h
He hit a 55 yard shot into press coverage on third and one, which is not what a small ask looks like
u/Blue_Ledger_7Texans13 points5h
That receiver was three yards clear before the ball left his hand
u/Ordinary_Salad_808Giants40 points5h
And the throw still had to be there and it was there
u/Fine_Bench_4407Dolphins198 points5h
I could not pick this man out of a lineup and I am exhausted. Every week for two years, whatever he does, the same eleven arguments arrive in the same order inside four minutes.
Nobody is watching football. Everybody is defending a position they took in April 2025
u/Mundane_Tourist_9Chargers85 points5h
This is true and you are also doing it, in a longer format
u/Fine_Bench_4407Dolphins289 points5h
yes
u/Mundane_Tourist_9Chargers66 points5h
Fair enough honestly
u/Substantial_Pear_19Packers33 points5h
The coverage of him is a separate thing from him and this website has never once managed to keep them apart
u/clemencypleaseCommanders22 points5h
I have never once looked up my own quarterback's numbers and I can recite this man's to one decimal place. that is what two years of this has done to me
u/Kevin_WhelanBills11 points5h
83.3
u/coverage_notes_168 points5h
The four sacks are the thing to watch, because they are the same sack. Twice he came off the first read, got to the second and then stopped moving his feet entirely while he decided.
Once he drifted backwards into his own tackle. The grounding was a throwaway attempted a second and a half too late. That is a clock problem inside the pocket and it is the one thing on the tape that costs him a game against a team still trying at three o'clock.
u/Ordinary_Salad_808Giants13 points5h
This is the argument the people who like him should be making and instead they are posting the passer rating
u/Necessary_Ostrich_44Bears10 points5h
I have been trying to say this for two years and it gets read as hatred every time
u/Fine_Bench_4407Dolphins6 points5h
Because you usually say it with the QBR number attached and the number is a flag, not an argument
u/lakewood_lindseyBrowns3 points5h
Bajakian has been working on exactly this since may and it was in three different practice reports in august
u/Sheridan_VossRavensRavens4 points5h
The completion percentage is going to be on a graphic on every network by nine and off it by october
u/Mild_Sequoia_5SteelersSteelers3 points5h
The interesting number to me is 24 attempts. That is a team that decided its quarterback would not have to save it, and it worked, and the question is what happens the week that plan is not available
u/orange_sofa_2 points4h
I have read about sixty comments in here and not one person on either side has said anything they did not already believe at nine this morning
u/Impossible_Violin_5Packers3 points4h
That is the fixture, not the bug
u/Lively_Compass_44Giants2 points4h
He was 20 of 24 and the four incompletions were a throwaway, a drop, a ball at the sideline and one he put in the third row under pressure. That is the whole chart and people are writing essays about it
u/Bright_Kettle_808Bills2 points4h
I would genuinely like to know what a good week for him would have to look like for the people who post the QBR number, because I do not think an answer exists
u/Necessary_Ostrich_44Bears8 points4h
Four weeks of this. That is my honest answer and I do not think it is an unfair one
u/brooklyn_hts_bBrowns2 points5h
Nobody here is going to argue with either side of this because we spent eighteen months watching him and still do not know
u/cuyahoga_carl_Browns2 points4h
The four sacks will decide his season and they are the only part of yesterday I am worried about
u/ohio_city_owenBrowns2 points4h
We are not going to be normal about this and I would like everybody to lower their expectations of us accordingly
u/nine_route_1 point3h

Twenty four attempts is not a real sample and this whole leaderboard is a marketing product. None of you would accept this from a quarterback you had already decided about.

Correct, and you have also already decided about him, which is why this is at minus four

Serious discussion: what Cleveland did on early downs, and why Jacksonville never got off the fieldDiscussion
Went back through the coaches film this morning rather than the broadcast copy. This is not a post about the head coach and I would ask that it not become one. Cleveland ran the ball 28 times for 173 and the entire afternoon is downstream of what that did to the down and distance. Jacksonville faced 11 third downs and 9 of them were short. Everything below is about that.

On the fourth downs, since nobody else is going to raise them in a week they won by 28. The first was a sneak out of a heavy set and the centre got moved a yard and a half backwards, which is the rookie centre problem in one snap.
The second was the one the broadcast argued about, and the call was worse than the spot, a wide zone to the short side against a front that had been sitting on it all afternoon. Zero for two is the only part of the afternoon a good team punishes.
u/garfield_gregBrowns6 points4h
He took both of them at the podium in about nine seconds and did not mention the spot once, which people are going to read four different ways
u/twelve_personnel_4 points4h
That is the pattern with him and it has been the pattern since january. It is going to become a story about the pattern rather than the calls
u/Silent_Gasket_44Raiders67 points4h
The coach lost a fight to his own headset
u/twelve_personnel_15 points4h
This is the eleventh comment of that kind on this post and the post is four hours old
u/Silent_Gasket_44Raiders41 points4h
And it is the top one
u/brandon_ostergaardVikings11 points3h
I did not expect Iheanachor to spend a full afternoon on Hines-Allen with no help and I want to see it again against somebody who is not playing in a hundred degrees
u/Practical_Deer_9Titans9 points3h
He was ninth overall against every public board in april and the boards have been wrong about tackles for as long as I have been reading them
u/brandon_ostergaardVikings5 points3h
one game
u/twelve_personnel_8 points4h
One more thing and then I will stop. The two explosive plays both came out of the same personnel grouping with the same backfield action, which means Jacksonville had seen it twice on tape before the second one and still did not have an answer for it. That is either very good design or a defensive staff that was cooked by the heat, and I do not think there is a way to separate those two from outside the building.
u/Suitable_Falcon_212Ravens7 points3h
We play them twice and I have watched the first half twice now. The run on first down is not going to travel.
They got four and five yards on early downs against a front that was jogging by the second quarter and the entire third down number is downstream of that. Against a defensive line that plays hard for sixty minutes that offence looks completely different and I do not think anybody in Cleveland would argue with me.
u/DuvalMorningsJaguars4 points3h
Our front did not jog. Our front was in that heat for most of the afternoon because the offence could not stay on the field
u/twelve_personnel_4 points3h
I would actually keep an eye on Delpit at big slot, because it is a personnel answer rather than a scheme answer. They moved a safety into a corner job to get their best tackler onto the second receiver and it held up for a full game. Nine tackles, a tackle for loss and a forced fumble out of that alignment is a lot of production from a position that usually just occupies somebody.
u/Careful_Sandwich_5Commanders3 points3h
Savage on the boundary is the other half of that and it did not go as well
u/twelve_personnel_5 points3h
66 yards to Hunter on one rep and two very good breakups on two others. It was a split afternoon and it is week one for a safety playing corner
u/Substantial_Pear_19Packers3 points2h
Good post. Going to get four hundred points and the clip is going to get forty thousand and that is the correct order of things on this website
u/Delridge_HoytEaglesJets3 points3h
Good post. The bit I want to see again is the run on first down against a front that is still trying in the fourth quarter
u/eight_o_clock_rule3 points4h
The quiet number here is that Cleveland gave up four sacks and had two penalties. A road offence with a rookie centre, a rookie right tackle and a rookie playing gadget receiver committed two penalties in a hundred degrees. That is not a talent thing, that is a preparation thing, and it is the one part of this afternoon that transfers to a bad week
u/Lively_Compass_44Giants2 points3h
If I were a Cleveland fan I would be worried that the defence played fewer snaps than any defence in the league on sunday and still had stretches where they lost the coverage entirely
u/medina_sound_guyBrowns3 points3h
It does worry us. We are just not going to say it out loud in september
u/Wide_Tomato_2000Bengals1 point2h
How much of this is Switzer and how much of it is the head coach, and is there any way to know from outside
u/coverage_notes_3 points2h
no
u/Kind_Hearted_ApeVikings1 point2h
Does anybody know whether Rutenberg is calling all of it or whether the head coach has the front on early downs. It has been reported both ways and neither report had a source
u/twelve_personnel_3 points2h
Both men have described it the same way in public and neither description is specific enough to be useful, which I suspect is on purpose
